True, last week my MSTY covered calls were very going to very close to strike price on friday (ex dividend date on Thursday). Only half were exercised and other half weren’t.
Oh, Well………

I put 7k into MSTY about this time last year.
Set it to auto- reinvest. (Drip)
Haven't touched it at all since.
It's a little over 13K now.
It's in ab IRA, so no tax worries.

The key concept is the difference between compensated risk and uncompensated risk.
* You could be investing in a broad market equity fund. That’s highly risky but you’re compensated for the risk with higher expected returns than savings accounts, bonds, etc.
* Holding a single stock is more risky than the market as a whole with no additional expected return. This is called uncompensated risk.
* When the stock is a meme stock the degree of uncompensated risk is higher.
*!When you’re trading derivatives related to a stock you’re significantly changing the risk you are exposed to in ways that are rather complicated and tricky to understand. As a result, it’s recommended to avoid such transactions unless you \*really\* understand what you’re doing with them.
So holding MSTY is much, much riskier than the market as a whole, as well as making the risk much more complicated and harder to understand.

You could get answers to these kinds of questions thru google faster than waiting on a response here..... but I'll give you the answer.
The most recent **ex‑dividend date** for MSTY was **July 3, 2025** . To receive that dividend, you needed to **buy MSTY before the market close on July 3** (or by the end of that trading day). Here's how it works:
* 📅 **Ex‑dividend date: July 3, 2025**
* ✅ **Buy on or before July 3**: you qualify for the July payout, which will be paid around **July 7, 2025**

I get the general concepts between MSTY, but what allows ULTY to pay weekly as opposed to monthly? What “percentage” are these managers paying us compared to what they’re making and how long can they stay operable? If they are so good, what’s with the big initial drop, but now consistent price and dividend payouts?
Don’t mean to sound bearish, just want some good advice. Thanks in advance.

You might consider a bit of DIY dividend portfolio investing, though that takes a bit of homework and is something of a project. But basically, long-term diversification is all...

Also multi-sector dividend investing is another way to do it.

Add in a bit of YieldMax for fun (people say bad things about YM, but some of their products (MSTY, PLTY) actually have held water pretty well).

Good luck!

You know what they say, if they accepted that, they wouldn't be dividend investors.
It's funny because when I think of terrible subreddits, it's usually a mix of toxicity, blatant misinformation and hate speech. The dividend subreddit is not toxic and it rarely gets political, but it is 90% misinformation. However, it's not the users making up the misinformation, they're the victims, they've been told a load of crock by someone (usually on YouTube), and now it's their identity. There's a guy who copy-pastes an answer to a lot of threads detailing 8 points why dividend investing is superior, and like 6 out of 8 are either not true or they're true but dividends are not the reason they're true. Each copy-paste gets big upvotes because it fits with what they already believe.
So in a way, that subreddit isn't especially terrible *as an experience*, but it is terrible as a place to learn about investing. That's bad because beginner investors seem particularly prone to going there, because even people who don't know anything about investing have heard the word dividend. They then get fed a load of idiocy about SCHD, MSTY or "getting paid to load the stock." It just made their lives worse, but honestly, that applies to most of Reddit.

MSTY writes calls on one company that started as a software company in 2000. The company never did well so now the owners of the company just invest money in crypto and doesn't pay a dividend. So the company is high risk because it uses one risky asset. SPYI in comparison uses and holds the S&P500 index while QQQI the NASDAQ 100. I don't know how RH and XDTE is structured.

Don't bother with a rental property.
Go all into ULTY. It's paying out over 100% a year. If you want to diversify, do 50% ULTY and 50% MSTY.

I’m thinking about doing this with my Roth IRA. I want to get $1000 worth of PLTY, TSLY, ULTY, NVDY, MSTY and use all the dividends to get QQQI, SPYI, and BTCI. I then want to use their dividends to start buying SCHG. This will be a 1 year experiment and I want to see how much additional money I can “contribute” using dividends.

ibkr changes their margin requirements regularly. it catches people off guard when they do what they did with MSTY and take 3:1 margin down to 0.
