thank you for you reply!
so from a pure monetary compensation basis, you would say you are still outearning them in the long run, even factoring in the early investments of CS?
I do want to do a lot more traveling in my life in the future, but wouldn't that also be easy as a doctor? I see that many doctors get ~8-10 weeks vacation annually, whereas I don't think it would be that much in tech.
Regarding the work life balance, I also notice that some jobs in tech require on call during weekends and evenings as well. Would you say that the hours are still worse as a doctor though?
Lastly, may I ask you about the status/symbol of being a doctor? Is this something that factored into your decision to become a doctor? To be perfectly honest, I think this is something I am chasing/desire, as it seems that doctors in society are viewed at a higher social level than other regular jobs (business, cs, etc). Would you say this status is worth the trouble of med school, residency, etc?

Been here since the sneeze. I’m able to do what I want with my shares. I haven’t taken out of CS yet, but might to take a bigger options play. Like DFV does, only smaller and simpler.

Knowing people who work there helps. I go to a Top 10 for CS, and one of my friends who's interning as a SWE at one of the firms helped me get an invite.

he's referring to anon "data engineers" on reddit who weren't good enough to get a traditional CS degree and can't land a perm FAANG job that's not a 9-12 month contract. they still think palantir just imports data like informatica or tableau or some other bullshit lmao.

I met a Snowflake engineering manager last week.
Super smart guy, went to Harvey Mudd and actually studied economics before moving to CS.
I asked him, what’s going on your stock? It got crushed in 2022 and never seem to recovered.
He hesitated and gave me a smile.
We then had a 2-hour long conversation where he told me the pre-consensus comeback story:
1. Data warehousing is becoming the bottleneck for large enterprise AI adoption. Think Nike not startup use case.
2. Snowflake is one of a few multi-cloud warehouses that is SQL-centric with enterprise-level speed and reliability.
3. Snowflake is quietly building out its own AI suite of products that leverages the training from its customers - a dataset that by itself builds a unique moat.
At the end of our what was supposed to be a quick 15-min coffee chat, I was confused (but in a good way). My entire view of Snowflake as a dead cat was shattered.
Not sure if this resonates with anyone, but definitely taking a second look as NVDA hits ATHs every week.

It's not true that HFTs aren't jnterested in undergrads.  Rather, they're not interested in any specific knowledge/research the undergrad have but instead, want to hire bright, motivated and entrepreneurial students.  So what employers want to see is basic background (math, stats, CS) and anything that's a mark of brightness and interest.
A research paper is great but the specific topics don't particularly matter.  It being in a competitive conference shows brightness, hard work and ambition and that's more important than any topic.  If a job wants any specific knowledge, they'd hire a PhD but there's a huge space for generically smart people without any specialized knowledge to make an impact.

Go ahead and write a letter to IR and see what happens.
Your( plural) copium is affecting your comprehension of the facts.
GameStop issues the quarterly reports, CS has the ledger that shows the breakdown ( in DTCC and in CS accounts).
All else is noise and you fucking know that.
BuT pLaN iS Bad.
GameStop made several statements, CS had several yt videos, yet here we are.
When those dumb fucks went to Grapevine, what did they see? Please remind me.
I will wait ( not really. Going to bed rn) for the whataboutism like all the times this discussion comes back.
GJ killing the momentum.
Rant over.

My credit union does this too. They even want to charge for personal checks which I would not use otherwise. The workaround is ACH. Because they don't make any money on it, they will not likely make it easy for you to find the form. I literally had to contact CS they had it buried so deep.

I’m aware, most of my family including my father is in CS. Medicine is only stable if you’re ok with accepting lower pay (unless you got a less desirable areas) and dealing with hospital politics. Or you go full time locums (like I did, but less stability)

rather than being stuck in CS, it's better to buy every cycle (2x/year) and make 40% on a run (if you're smart and not greedy). then short and repeat. It's almost impossible not to make at least 150% profit/year. I repeat, if you're not greedy. otherwise you lose everything.

I’m an incoming freshman at Princeton, and I know I want to go into quant, hopefully to do either QT or QR. I would like to know if anyone may have some insight into helping me decide which set of majors and minors may be the best for recruiting and job prep.
Option 1: Operations Research and Financial Engineering major (Bachelor of Science and Engineering) with a double minor in both Applied & Computational Math and Stats & ML. I’d hope to learn the appropriate CS stuff when going this route through research, projects, and internships, as I have extensive programming experience already.
Option 2: Mathematics major (Bachelor of Arts) with a double minor in CS and Stats & ML. I’d probably have more breadth of knowledge and skills with this route, I’d imagine, but I’d need to make sure my coursework aligns with quant (e.g. stocalc, optimisation courses, maybe an elective on options and derivatives or something).
I really don’t know where to start, as I’ve mainly been a math guy in high school, and I’ve decided over my senior year that quant is what I want to do after discussing with teachers and family. While I don’t think I’d be wrong in my presumption that the disparities between coursework and recruiting opportunities are probably few and far between when it comes to choosing one of these degrees over the other, I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask for advice. I’d really appreciate any help or insight you may have! Thanks a ton.

Hello all- I'm seeing the TOS promos when I login to my CS account more and more. I've read their promo notes, but in all of your opinions, is TOS mainly for high-intensity, daily, sophisticated trading or does it have some usefulness for a trader that goes in just once a week or so and only has about $10K to risk? I'm open to learn and not intimidated by technology- just would like to get some of your thoughts.
Lastly, I've always just used the basic Schwab charting for a stock and their research tools on their normal screens, plus I am a mix of Buffet-style "buy and hold" but also set my stop limits and will go in and out of a stock once or twice a month. I monitor basic moving averages and on occasion watch candlestick charting if activity is up.
Has anyone here experienced significant overall returns in their trading, or does it just help maintain good average returns/risk protection? I know a lot of that varies based on a trader's experience and skills- not questioning that- just wondering it the Think Or Swim tools really have helped you.
Thanks in advance! (PS- I would just be using it on my desktop with a 49" ultra wide screen- no mobile desire and I won't be traveling much so no need for a web version I believe).
