Hmm, there is a significant-ish potential cost savings of about 0.36%/year (or a little less as you add more bonds later) available from a do-it-yourself approach with individual funds.
Consider doing the following:
1. Start out with 60% of contributions into FID 500 INDEX (FXAIX) & 40% into DFA INTL CORE EQ I (DFIEX); keep that for as long as you're ok with forgoing bonds (i.e. with higher expected portfolio value volatility in exchange for higher expected returns).
2. Set a yearly phone/calendar/email reminder (and maybe try to associate this with some holiday or your birthday) to rebalance those holdings to that target 60/40 allocation (by exchanging some of the one that did better that past year for some of the one that did worse, to bring the amount invested in each back to 60%/40% of the total portfolio value).
3. When you want to start introducing bonds to reduce portfolio volatility (and expected returns), gradually shift some of the FXAIX into VANG BAL INDEX ADM (VBIAX). That's a 60% stocks / 40% bonds fund, so you'd want to allocate about 2.5x as much to that than you would if it were a 100% bonds fund. (Maybe by then your plan will have a simpler/cheaper bond index fund available.) Include the new fund in your annual rebalancing, and gradually increase its target allocation towards where you want it around retiremenet.
While more complicated / hands-on, I'd personally consider it worth the 0.36%/year savings (that's something like 6-12% of the expected long-term real / after-inflation returns from stocks).
