So I’ve been digging into the recent explosion of single-stock leveraged ETFs (TSLL, TSLQ, etc) and I’m wondering if we’re missing something here.
Most of these products offer fixed 1.5x or 2x daily leverage on TSLA.
The only problem is, double the leverage also means double the pain. Holding these ETFs long term without any timing can be very painful (the whole "if it goes down 50% you need to go up 100% to recoup" thing).
[Both 2X long and 2X short for Tesla is down this year](https://preview.redd.it/yhd5bxpge61f1.png?width=1784&format=png&auto=webp&s=882af4851cd80d222647f4d7a07159295c793462)
This led me to wonder: are there any actively managed leveraged ETFs that try to smooth out the downside? Something that isn’t just blind leverage, but adapts based on momentum or macro conditions?
The only one I could find is TESL (it’s the one that actively manages leveraged TSLA exposure). It seems like in backtests a momentum strategy may work for something like Tesla (b/c there's both fear and hype around TSLA in different seasons). And so far it does seem like the strategy has been working well (YTD, 6 months, etc)
[TESL’s momentum strategy in blue \(+56% 6months\). TSLL is bottom line.](https://preview.redd.it/dhpfay0me61f1.png?width=2440&format=png&auto=webp&s=caa42870a5d2260103f47e717b03d04d6566090e)
Anyone know of other ETFs that do this well?
I'm bullish long term on Tesla esp. after the Optimus demo, but am scared of straight leveraged ETFs since it's not something you should just buy and hold but have to manage. It’s great that TESL tries to do some of that management around momentum.

TSLA is too much for me to play even on a Friday.
I have a couple of debit spreads on TSLL - still let's me gamble on Tesla without having to risk a lot since that stock wrecks people.

Anybody heard of $TESL? I generally don't like 2x levered ETFs (like $TSLL) b/c going down 50% requires you to go up 100% to make it up and it seems to show:
https://preview.redd.it/aummd75lm01f1.png?width=705&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3595e78c87588ba34b87e978c21275b933d4c3d
TSLL (2x Tesla etf) is down 21% past 6M while $TSLA is up 7% and $TESL is up 50%...
It seems TESL is achieving this by using indicators/momentum to decide how concentrated it is in TSLA:
[https:\/\/www.voltfunds.com\/etfs\/tesl-simplify-volt-tsla-revolution-etf](https://preview.redd.it/dpld6i5um01f1.png?width=1045&format=png&auto=webp&s=7af3f56bf0c3f96f5549f2d81cbcc7f625f99027)

To be honest, I've become kind of jaded on TSLA and Elon but recently saw their video demo of how far their optimus humanoid robot has come and I was blown away by how fast they've progressed to the point where it can do very agile dance moves: [https://x.com/Tesla\_Optimus/status/1922456791549427867](https://x.com/Tesla_Optimus/status/1922456791549427867)
So I'm thinking TSLA can have some explosive upside and wondering if TESL might be an interesting vehicle to get that exposure. Thoughts on this and in general other momentum ETFs?
