Yes, with SPY, DIA, QQQ, XLF, RSP and a few more I am sure, don’t cut loses!!!! It will come back, but it may take some time as it did with April’s draw down.

Those are all great, QQQ is a decent tech industry stock.
Here are some I’ve been looking at.
For energy XEG (toronto stock exchange one/TSX), HXE, ZEO and NRGY
For retail/transportation XIU and VSP
For housing VRE (the vanguard one on Wealthsimple)
For mining XGD and XME
As always do your own research and time your entry.

Wow thanks. I’m still kinda new to all this but wanted to do the same thing actually. Put some cash into the Wealthsimple TFSA. And as for ETFs, how do I know which ones to pick that cover those sectors ? Like tech, healthcare, retail etc. just as you said read the descriptions ? What about VOO, VTI, SCHB, QQQ? I’m already basically in a similar thing with my main bank right now? (CAD and US ETF Funds)

Yeah, looking through OP’s history and I don’t think people who have built $150 million funds ask Reddit if they messed up their last swing trade on QQQ

That was kind of my approach as well. I have some things that I leave along and they will always be fully invested.
I had a couple of investments with a good gain and when Trump started talking about tariffs, I sold those to lock in some profit, to see what kind of chaos Trump was going to cause and because 3/4 or more of my assets were still invested so if things go up I'm good and I then had a good chunk of cash to invest if the market dropped.
I wrote cash covered puts while I waited to see what was going to happen. It appears to me that the market fully understands the tariff risk at this point and the market is going up so I keep a permanent amount of cash out and invested the rest in 4 stocks (I already have QQQ and BTC).
Can the market go down, sure, it can always go down. Historically it goes up and the short-term in random so trying to time it rarely works. It's easy to get out but then you have to get back in without it going up more than when you got out.
My gut principal is always to have enough cash to ride out a 2 year recession and everything else is fully invested. My diversification is QQQ, BTC, money market and a house.
It's worked for me. Trump is out of office in 3 year. Biden was in office and stocks declined in 2022. I pretty much try to ignore politics as it's just a clown show at best.
People panic, I generally don't. That's pretty much how I approach the market.

You should be wary of any yield that essentially doubles your money in a year with dividends reinvested. If you backtest ULTY it’s basically got the same beta as QQQ so not as risky as you think on a total return basis. Just don’t expect the distribution yield to equal your total return over 6+ month holding period.

Simply invest 100K on DCA auto invest over 3 years in SCHD. Put 75K in QQQ and 75K in VOO with same 3 or 4 years DCA duration.
With ETFs you will safe and compound over rest of your life. Get a good paying job. You will have approx 5K dividend each year with above split. Open ROTH and try contributing 7K by year end so there too you grow tax free.
**NOT A FINANCIAL ADVISE.**

Curious as to what y'all are holding and why - especially if it's something out of the ordinary.
We all know about SCHD, DGRO, VYM, and the other mainstream dividend ETFs, as well as the covered call funds like JEPQ/JEPI, and QQQI/SPYI. Let's see if we can't point each other in the direction of something on the path less traveled.
To start - I own TDVI and IGLD.
IGLD is one of the gold funds that also provides income. It doesn't provide as many gains as something like GLD during a run-up but it does provide income. GOLY is a comparable fund but hasn't gained quite as much on a total return basis.
TDVI is a tech focused income fund. In terms of total return it has beaten QQQ/QQQM since its inception. The yield is a bit over 7% so it doesn't quite match QQQI in that regard however, again, in total returns it has done quite nicely.
Both of these have higher than average expense ratios. Are they worth it? In my mind, yes. TDVI in particular has beaten the S&P500 since inception. Its older brother TDIV(creative naming, right?) has as well. In my mind, if something has a higher ER but is a superior product it's worth it. That's part of why I don't own VXUS.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing what y'all have that might be off the beaten track - maybe we can all learn a thing or two.

XOM, BRK.B, STFGX?

The term for Selling Options has NOT BEEN MARGIN FOR OVER 20 YEARS. It is buying buying, but Fidelity is not an option house, I think they require over 25k besides BP to even open a short option position, while a Schwab would require 6k (say for a QQQ Put).
The formula you give sounds right , but in general it is useless since your Broker sets the BP. I have seen one firm require 6k for selling a Spy while another wants 10k. The only thing you want is to see the BP as you create the order. The more important rule is to keep an equal amount of BP in case their is a selloff (Puts) or meltup (Calls).

This is a lot bro. Sell some over time to reduce positions and consolidate into that QQQ position or other growth ETFs that you like. If your timeframe is 15 years then you can determine a good income play.

A few months ago, I decided to transition more of my portfolio to buying and holding by selling csps and taking assignment for a lower cost basis. The stocks I picked have kept going up, so I keep rolling higher for more premium as I get to 50% profit or so. So, I've been making good premium, but missed out on the increase I would have had if I had just bought the shares. Now the shares are well above the price I wanted to pay originally and I am hesitant to continue with the sell and get assigned plan.
Meanwhile, I also did but some shares at a hgher price than the csp strikes and sold CCs. As I mentioned, the stock prices continued to rise, so now I have been rolling higher for a loss, less than the cost of the roll, so maintaining value but spending cash to do so. This had slowed my profit making percentage while I await expiration or decide to throw in the towel.
I had a good month of June, for me, (1.35%) , but it would have been much better had I just bought the shares and done nothing else. With spy at ATH I'm hesitant to do that, but am trying to wrap my head around what the best way to select strikes and tenor. I'm very much OK with making 1-2% permonth safely, but want to avoid those drawdowns that have hurt my progress.
For reference , made 16%+ in 2023, 7% during 2024 (ugh-August walloped me), and am currently running towards 10% (still ugh-April dinged me) this year, all while SPY, and QQQ blows those numbers away. So not a complete amateur, but have learned enough to know that I could and should be doing much better if not for just two bad weeks over three years. Any really good source of guidance would be appreciated. I've read tons, watch tons of videos, and feel like I am now close to becoming a good options trader, just need a more advanced look at what is causing me the pain. I tried ICs, but usually wind up have to close for a loss as one of the strikes gets threatened.
Where do you trade options futures btw? I've been using a prop firm to learn futures, but not sure where options futures are traded.
