Another great explanation of the critical technologies that even we poet/non-engineer types can wrap our heads around. Really appreciated. Thank you! Look forward to hearing your thoughts on why MVIS is the best fit for the industrial/logistics markets and what the scale of those markets may be.

I thought that at first too but in essence the CEO of Ford is saying Elon is wrong on LiDAR - at least that's I took from it. Their backing LiDAR is a plus for MVIS and other LiDAR makers.

> It might be possible to fight a war without people getting killed in large numbers. Just destroy the enemy infrastructure( power grid, agriculture, and government) and its game over.
I very much like MVIS' re-entry into the military vertical, but if Eric Schmidt is suggesting that destroying power grids, agriculture, and infrastructure will not cause death in large numbers, it would be further evidence of his already obvious detached and elitist psychopathy.

Extremely well said Glum! We are standing ready to take the Lion's share of the Lidar market.
Go MVIS!

More than one of their patents refers to 240 Hz lidar. SS has also stated they could build an FMCW lidar if they felt one was needed, but they clearly don't for the reasons stated, high cost and no need, given ToF provides what's required. This reasoning was specifically confirmed in Mobileye's explanation of why they abandoned their FMCW program. While they also tried to suggest their improving radar factored in, they spelled out that modern, cheap ToF lidar negated the FMCW case in automotive. Also notable, see if you can get data on the specific resolution of AEVA's lidar. Their material speaks about Atlas Ultra being 3x better than Atlas, without specifying the resolution of Atlas. When Atlas came out, same thing, except then it was 20x legacy lidar. What legacy lidar was unstated. When angular resolution or points per second data are hard to find, I take note. Which is not to say that with enough lasers and transceivers, high-resolution can't be done. But again. at what cost, and what size? Hesai had a high-resolution lidar, the AT512, but they admitted in a call that its too expensive for the mass market. Now I don't see it on their website any longer, replaced by an even bigger monster, the AT1440. I predict that it won't be mass-market either. As to size, Aeva announced the Atlas Ultra, expected in 2026, is 35% slimmer than Atlas. Again, no dimensions for either on their website, and neither looks particularly slim. And we are yet to touch on heat and, related, power. Those novel lasers, especially if increased resolution requires more of them, will need power and therefore generate more heat than a solution requiring less. Same for all the fancy math (Fourier). More compute means more power, more heat. The beauty of MEMS LBS, in any application, has always been its elegant simplicity: robust, low-mass vibrating mirrors combined with mature super-fast (modulation) lasers. That applies here as well. We know what MVIS uses as a steering system, MEMS mirrors, which they are very good at, still the best as far as I can tell. What exactly is the steering system used by Aeva? Is it as good? Essentially, lidar is a gun with bullets that bounce back to be caught by the shooter. The ToF vs FMCW discussion is mostly about the bullets and the means of catching and counting them. But what about the gun? What is Aeva's gun? MVIS has a really good gun, one very hard to make and which can precisely scatter-shoot a sh**load of bullets (pulses, or waves if they ever choose) in a very short time. Others struggle to do so, so they strap more bullets (lasers for laser pulses or continuous waves), and therefore cost, to their inferior firing mechanisms.

What is this click bait garbage? CEO said nothing of such to Musk lol. I'm more insulted for the future when Ford comes out with another LIDAR / BlueCruise idea that they're making in house and MVIS is (sad trombone) doing nothing again.

Thanks for another outstanding presentation Ben. This provides a good window into why SS has said we have the leading lidar solution. It also gives me confidence in our solution and my investment in it by better understanding complex technical aspects which I would not without your help. That has real value, and is very much appreciated.
I wish MVIS management would have taken the time to break this down to investors the way you have. I can only hope they actually have done so with potential OEMs. I also hope their burgeoning sales team is watching your videos.

To further that. If MVIS wins an ~actual~ deal with an OEM. One where $ amounts are signed for large numbers of units. Imagine what that OEM’s competitors would do.

Interesting. The core technology for MVIS is the MEMS engine. I would think that MVIS could increase the frequency of MEMS mirror to increase the response time. Weren't they working on higher frequency MEMS to get higher resolution when the display engine was the primary focus?

Sign a bad deal that bankrupts MVIS (or really just puts us in a bad position for do anything else) and the whole bull case goes out with window for future validation.
Early stage development OEMs are risk adverse and put the risk on the suppliers. DoD won’t be that way with SBMC.
Gap is 1000% correct. SBMC is the ticket. No other lidar companies will have free flowing cash flow like MVIS.
After an SMBC validation the chances that MVIS takes the lidar market and LBS market winner take majority. Is astronomical.
Cash burn is really low. Thank you SS for being conservative when i wanted short term gratification.
Paradigm shift incoming.

Ben, this is just what I wanted to see! I can understand the drawback of the Aeva technology. Seems similar to Luminars - too complicated/expensive to scale. I also see a lot of other disadvantages to Luminar's tech. But Aeva is pushing along with their lidar solution. Can you comment on the potential benefits of Aeva over MVIS? SS seemed to indicated that MVIS tech is good enough for the job, but that seemed to suggest that maybe Aeva's tech (or someone elses) can do some things a bit better. Perhaps better range? I'm not sure if there is any real way to gauge performance since you can't necessarily trust published specs. Do you feel that MVIS tech is equal or superior to Aeva, or is Aeva's potentially better but overengineered beyond what is needed? And does MVIS tech have the potential to evolve to improve performance or is there some physics limitations that place a ceiling on MVIS? Thanks again for these videos.

Good questions. I don't have the answers but would like to know also.
Another question Ben's excellent video caused me to ask is; once the costs are fully driven out of both these solutions (granted MVIS is way ahead at present and for the immediate future), which one is ultimately less costly assuming both survive long term.

Thanks for posting Zen and what a great comparison with one of our major competitors and perhaps THE top MVIS competitor - AEVA stock performance has certainly been impressive and I’ve been sole searching as to why it’s moved so much higher the last 3 months. This podcast gets in the “weeds” and helps explain the critical differences in technologies.
Can anyone on our board speak to why AEVA stock price has accelerated the last few months? There are always sentiment vs fundamental reasons for stock performance but it would appear to me that (going forward), MVIS would appear to have the technical and fundamental reasons to prevail with a major auto OEM. Typically, does a “development” contract (AEVA’S) get you this kind of stock performance and following? Are there other justifications for AEVA’s performance?
Remaining patient, Rooster

Who exactly is saying that their happiness is based on MVIS stock price for that day? Kinda feels like a phantom enemy is being fought here lol. Also you have a comment from a month ago saying your net worth is $500k but you say you have 300k MVIS shares?

In this episode of Ben’s MicroVision Podcast, we unpack a major shift in the autonomous driving landscape.
Tesla’s FSD Hits Trouble: We examine recent reports of Tesla Full Self-Driving failures caused by sun glare, including a tragic pedestrian fatality — and what it reveals about the limits of camera-only systems.
Ford Steps In: Ford’s CEO publicly declares that LIDAR is mission critical to autonomy. We analyze what this means for the industry — and which LIDAR tech might win out.
FMCW vs. MEMS ToF LiDAR: We dive deep into cost structure comparisons, laser and receiver component costs, compute overhead, and why FMCW may never achieve cost parity.
Whether you're an MVIS investor, or just tracking the self-driving wars, this episode connects the headlines to the deeper technical and business realities shaping the future of autonomy.

MVIS added:
Senior Manager, Industrial Sales
Director, Americas BD and Sales
(That plural indicates pretty much the Western Hemisphere, and the BD stands for Business Development)
Slight difference than adding 2'sales people !!
