I have IBIT in my ROTH because I figure if I am going to have some exposure to the potential absurd gains that could continue to happen, then I want to be TAX FREE long term. I do sell calls on the IBIT in my ROTH when I think time is correct, of course never all of it and it is spread across time to lower volatility of those call sells. That said I have bought 100+ additional shares of IBIT so far from selling calls in my ROTH which is pretty boss.
I did some crypto wallet stuff in the beginning, but the issue I kept dreading is what happens if I randomly die and my wife has to understand how to do all of this. I thought no biggie I will teach her. Then realized oh wait, what happens if we both die? Then I need to teach my oldest, and so on and so forth and it just became clear. As much as I am long BTC. I need IBIT instead. I could probably use a company to manage it all in a will type situation, but in the end I just decided TAX FREE in ROTH + no issues with my children getting our funds if something happens to us.
I really didn't care to much about ETH because the supply is theoretically unlimited, but since it has a burn mechanism it isn't stupid. Once stable coins and genius act started to become real this has changed my mind to start looking at it as another correlation diversification. Now that I see the IVR is so high, it just looks pretty juicy. Not sure which strategy I want to do yet though.

I have some exposure to IBIT, but I don't have a crypto wallet and I've never actually traded crypto itself.
I probably should have maybe 3% of my money in crypto at some point.

No. Old alt seasons were funded by btc gains or, most recently (2021), the GME short squeeze. The new crypto paradigm is the etf world. It’s no longer easy for money to move from btc, which is up, to alts.
Also, the whole point of alts (from the standpoint of btc investors) was to outperform btc to get more btc. You don’t need alts to do that anymore, though. You have MSTR or options on IBIT, which are higher probability plays to outperform btc than alts.

Dealing with crypto platforms and their horrible KYC requirements is a nightmare . With IBIT you can sell covered calls too !!

This conversation is getting old. There are pros and cons to all forms. I wanted exposure to BTC in my tax free savings account but as a Canadian I cannot even buy IBIT, so my TFSA has MSTR. I have BTC on a reputable exchange which give me a prepaid visa debit card that gives me 5% cash back on all purchases, free Amazon, free Netfliix, 2 people in an airport lounge, free spotify plus more benefits. I also have the majority in a fully air gapped Foundation Core cold wallet. Anyone who spouts out not your keys, not your wallet needs to do more research.

I completely agree with you.
But honestly speaking, if all they are looking for is exposure to its price action, and they can trust that they won’t be rugged, then it’s fine.
Who knows, they may buy IBIT now
and if they want to learn more then they will

Agreed. For a lot of people they want to own their own keys, which is fine, but there are just as many reasons to hold IBIT instead.
I just read a post about someone complaining about their capital gains taxes. All of that would have been avoided holding IBIT in an Roth, for example.
I've sene others lose their keys, or have a mess of computing their cost basis, etc.

Is there anything wrong with buying Bitcoin ETFs such as IBIT instead of just buying crypto through PayPal/Coinbase? The IBIT would be a lot easier but I’m not too educated on crypto but would like to invest in it.

SPY is a good one, I’d do that

I’d consider investing in IBIT to get some crypto exposure in there too. It’s here to stay, it’s worth having some exposure

tldr; BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT), launched less than two years ago, is now the third-highest revenue-generating ETF for the firm, producing $191 million annually with $76.314 billion in assets. Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas notes that IBIT needs less than $10 billion in additional assets to become BlackRock's top revenue-generating ETF, surpassing the iShares Russell 1000 Growth ETF (IWF). IBIT charges 25 basis points annually, while IWF, launched in 2000, generates $211 million yearly with a 19-basis-point fee.

Not quite.
IBIT is at $191.2 million/year in annual revenue. There are still two other ETF’s, MSCI EAFE (EFA) at $206.5 million/year and Russell 1000 Growth (IWF) at $213.8 million/year which still generate a little more annual revenue than IBIT.
Note that both of those other two ETF’s have been around since the early 2000’s, as have most of the 465 ETF’s BlackRock offers. The fact that IBIT barely launched at the beginning of 2024 and is already on pace to being the single highest revenue generating ETF BlackRock offers by the end of this year is insane.
Incentives drive behaviors and BlackRock will have more incentive to push their BTC spot ETF product to their clients than any other product they offer.
