Well, yeah. Crypto is stupid volatile.
I do have some crypto to diversify, but mostly for fun. I mined a bunch of DOGE way back when and have been sitting on it for well over a decade. I could cash out for nice profit today if I wanted. I'm content to let it ride and watch the roller coaster. It would have to drop to 2013 prices for me to regret not selling or to worry. I don't see that happening. Even if it did, I mined it when it was worthless and stupid easy to mine.
I've bought some other crypto, but if it evaporated I'd only be out a few hundred. I'm mostly into silver and stocks.

I do research on altcoins beforepurchasing. Soon as I buy, it plummets...ADA, XRP, and recently MON....even DOGE, which, just for the heck of it

I remember the young college kid on reddit who went all in on DOGE back in early Feb. while some shyster was pushing a breakout point leading to $2-3 soon.
 Maybe in a few years it recovers, but it's been all downhill since. That would be brutal.

DOGE basically cost the government an estimated $21 billion. Taxpayer loss due to cuts in programs and services is estimated at $125 billion. Predicted lost revenue is predicted to be $500 billion.
But Musk got all the investigations into his companies and any penalties canceled, so it’s another trump win!

I've said this before: XRP is the one crypto that's worth more than hype.
Something like DOGE is only worth anything because people get hyped, buy a ton, and public sentiment generates the value. It also causes its downturns. DOGE is literally only worth anything because people believe in in. Not XRP.
No, XRP is worth more than any amount of hype us retail buyers can generate. XRP gets its worth from being *useful* for moving institutional-levels of money around. Not from 1 million of us tossing $100 in each paycheck. But from multiple banks transferring multiple millions of dollars across the ledger every day. It's not happening yet because that takes time, which is why the price is such a discount.
No amount of hype or belief can impact the price the way the major players in the global financial system who partner with Ripple will impact the price.

Your example is from 2018, when ETH was in a sustained multi-month downtrend after peaking near $1.4k in January. Why would I sell at $150–$350 during a capitulation cycle? You take profits after ETH has moved up significantly, not while it’s bleeding out at the bottom.
Same with 2020 - why would anyone sell at $500 in late 2020 when ETH had already hit $1.4k two years earlier and was finally recovering? That’s not “selling high and buying low.” That’s selling mid-range during a macro recovery.
For context, I haven’t sold any ETH I bought or mined since 2017, aside from one swing trade into DOGE in 2021 when Elon sent it into orbit. I bought back my original ETH and kept the DOGE essentially for free. I wasn’t interested in selling ETH below its 2021 ATH - but in hindsight, that meant I missed a golden opportunity to double my ETH stack during the 2024–2025 volatility.
I get that it’s not easy without hindsight. But it’s reassuring to realize that big corrections don’t have to be panic events if you’ve already taken profits at higher levels.
