BitcoinX is a Bitcoin fork that plans to transition to Proof-of-Stake to research staking protocol parameters applied to Bitcoin. BitcoinX forked from Bitcoin at block 498,888 on December 12, 2017. The fork was initiated because the team wanted to add additional privacy, smart contracts, and research sharding, low fees and Proof-of-Stake consensus. Originally, the fork uses a Blake2 Proof-of-Work consensus algorithm and builds on the Bitcoin Core codebase. New blocks are added to the chain every 2.5 minutes, and mining difficulty adjusts after every block. Block sizes are 4 MB.
