Very simple: Price has nothing to do with this. Check out the past prices of ADA, LINK, AVAX etc. and you’ll see that usage does not necessarily reflect on pricing. Heck, Cardano didn’t even have smart contracts when it reached it’s ATH years ago.
Look on DefiLlama charts and you’ll see literally how TVL and volume skyrocketed the moment memecoins began to gain traction. I am not saying Solana is a memechain, if it was purely hype people would rotate to a better chain. My point is that the tech is good, but the only reason it got so many eyes on it and legit became a household name is because of the memecoin hype behind it, and the fact that the tech can ACTUALLY support the hype is what keeps it this popular and not just a fad.
FTX going belly up could have very well ended the limelight on Solana, tech is not everything there are tons of high quality blockchains that have simply faded away, memecoins brought it more popularity than ever before and onboarded so many normies that were not into crypto before, and they’ll stick to Solana because it works and it’s what they know.

i did it like that in the past, but there is a problem: for ADA (and maybe other coins, too) kraken seems to output 1 tx with multiple recipients... the other recipients are also listed in that field

I mean, Cardano might convert part of its own treasury to BTC, but sure swap BTC for ADA if you want.

Uex.us has the best aggregated rates I've found on any swap. I've used it a lot for swapping BTC to $DOG or $ADA to $DOG.

I’d say just use non-registration swap sites, there’s always a risk of KYC but 99.9% of swaps go through without it if the BTC was not flagged. (Avoid Changelly)
Considering you mentioned needing it to interact with contracts I’m assuming it’s a low amount and would recommend this route as its the most cost efficient and most likely to not require KYC eventough it still being centralized.
If you’d still prefer a FULL decentralized option, be prepared to pay some fee’s and, depending on the amount, a good slippage:
1) Bridge your BTC via WanChain
2) Swap your WanBTC (the BTC you just bridged) for iBTC (Indigo’s synthetic BTC) on the MinSwap DEX
3) Swap the iBTC to ADA there too. This is the option with the most liquidity

I get surprised when someone has XRP but not Solana.
I would add some Solana, ADA, Avax in case they get lucky. In this order. Then only invest in Bitcoin unless the market changes.

Depends on your risk tolerance and how things play out really, ADA is near its all time low against Bitcoin. It's certainly a bad decision if things don't play out like the last cycle and of course many have already lost faith in alts so I can't blame them for their despair.
However, in the last cycle ADA/BTC also tested all time lows.
If as a trader, you believe the chart will continue to be cyclical and you're willing to take the **risk**, then there's certainly trading opportunity. Positions don't need to be all or nothing, some consider the risk and still want the exposure. Arguably, if things do play out, it's a very good range to be accumulating ADA - "fortune favours the brave".

Whatever service you might think of using, if you transact 4 figures or higher you will be hit with KYC. Maybe even with 3 figures.

Ah, that's $ price - it's converting that to ADA price - if ADA market price drops it'll go down, even though your token balance and interest are still growing.
Also the interest is earned every Cardano block ( 20 seconds) spikes after a big rate up, after a quiet block it might look like you've lost money - but your accrual is still increasing.
