You can consider adding covered call etfs, REITs, BDCs for some higher yield. I have SPYI QQQI for covered calls. I have EPR for REIT (but it’s had a big run lately, I bought it years ago lower.) I might add BXSL as BDC soon.

If you need to use any of the $180k in the next 10 years, keep that portion in SGOV.
For everything you plan on investing for the next 10+ years, I would choose a combination of US and international ETFs.
If you don’t plan to use the income right now and will reinvest it, I like FDVV for US and VYMI for international.
If you need to generate income right now for spending, then SPYI, IWMI, and IDVO.

SPYI is tax friendly so is UTG as monthly payers.. but honestly SGOV for your timeline is probably best

Curious as to what y'all are holding and why - especially if it's something out of the ordinary.
We all know about SCHD, DGRO, VYM, and the other mainstream dividend ETFs, as well as the covered call funds like JEPQ/JEPI, and QQQI/SPYI. Let's see if we can't point each other in the direction of something on the path less traveled.
To start - I own TDVI and IGLD.
IGLD is one of the gold funds that also provides income. It doesn't provide as many gains as something like GLD during a run-up but it does provide income. GOLY is a comparable fund but hasn't gained quite as much on a total return basis.
TDVI is a tech focused income fund. In terms of total return it has beaten QQQ/QQQM since its inception. The yield is a bit over 7% so it doesn't quite match QQQI in that regard however, again, in total returns it has done quite nicely.
Both of these have higher than average expense ratios. Are they worth it? In my mind, yes. TDVI in particular has beaten the S&P500 since inception. Its older brother TDIV(creative naming, right?) has as well. In my mind, if something has a higher ER but is a superior product it's worth it. That's part of why I don't own VXUS.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing what y'all have that might be off the beaten track - maybe we can all learn a thing or two.

I literally have a separate brokerage account called "Emergency Funds" and Fidelity makes it very easy to open up a new account once you already have an account with them. This is how I have accounts split up with the partner -
Joint Checking
Joint Brokerage
Emergency Funds

About 50% of the money in the Emergency Funds just sits there in SPAXX which is the default holdings position. The rest of 50% are in JEPQ and SPYI (25% each)

Hope this helps!

Not true. First, 1256 contacts are taxed 60/40 long/short term. Also, while ROC lower taxes currently, they simply postpone taxes to a higher amount later.
Basically, while SPYI/QQQI are more tax efficient than other covered call ETFs like JEPI/JEPQ, they're not as tax-efficient as owning shares and selling as long-term capital gains.
Also, that's just the bonus on top of what that chart shows, that owning the underlying asset is ALWAYS more profitable long-term than a covered call ETF.

You get nav erosion but doesn't the cost basis drop with those particular funds, thus making tax loss harvesting less worthwhile? How are the taxes handled with SPYI and QQQI when you sell the shares?

Thank you for sharing this. Playing around and backtesting various scenarios. Taxes on VOO would be higher (assuming LTCG) than the \~94% ROC classification on SPYI for 2024.

I need to do the same at some point. QQQI and SPYI seem like higher yields with almost 100% ROC which helps with taxes. I need a good sized correct to jump ship.

MSTY writes calls on one company that started as a software company in 2000. The company never did well so now the owners of the company just invest money in crypto and doesn't pay a dividend. So the company is high risk because it uses one risky asset. SPYI in comparison uses and holds the S&P500 index while QQQI the NASDAQ 100. I don't know how RH and XDTE is structured.

And I don’t touch those yield max funds those are scams. I play it safe with JEPQ SPYI AND QQI

Just in case there's someone still here who wants to see if this is really true. If you invested $10k in both VOO and SPYI (at SPYI's inception), and withdrew $200 from each per month ($200 sale of VOO and use $200 in dividends from SPYI), and anything extra got reinvested, this is the chart:
https://testfol.io/?s=lrS9oRzFz4O
So you earned the same $200 in income each month from each investment. With VOO, you'd still have $7k, but with SPYI you'd only have $5.8k.
In addition, the taxes on selling VOO would be less than the taxes on the SPYI dividends, so the difference would be slightly greater in the favor of VOO.

I’m thinking about doing this with my Roth IRA. I want to get $1000 worth of PLTY, TSLY, ULTY, NVDY, MSTY and use all the dividends to get QQQI, SPYI, and BTCI. I then want to use their dividends to start buying SCHG. This will be a 1 year experiment and I want to see how much additional money I can “contribute” using dividends.

If you invite in a combination of dividend assets with a yeild close to 10% you would have about 50k of income per year after selling the condo. Which is probably enough to cover most of your living expense or all of the rent for the appartment. Some funds you could use are PFFA 8% yield, PBDC 9% EIC 10%, SPYI 11%, ARDC 12%, QQQI 13%.
